PAT & PLI DOCUMENTS

If a venue asks for proof that we are Portable Appliance Tested, have Public Liability Insurance, or are covered by
Personal Indemnity, you can take the evidence below and forward it onto them.  Be weary of any DJs who don't have these!

FAQs

  • I've found a cheaper DJ - why do some cost more expensive?

This might make us sound expensive but we're actually great value for money, we just want you to know what to look for and expect!  Get a no-obligation quote today and see if we're the best for your budget.

As with any service, there's wide range of differences in who's quoting you such as their skill level, quality of equipment, experience and professionalism.  Please choose the best DJ you can get for your budget, as basing your decision on purely price might determine how good or bad their:

    • song selection for your particular crowd, ability to read the room and adapt to various factors, and how apt they are in mixing properly so as not to hurt your ears or disrupt the dancefloor
    • impressive or basic setup in regards to how modern or outdated their lights are, the volume and quality of sound from their speakers, clear or muffled their microphone etc
    • responsibility and accountability, as not all DJs are PAT-tested or PLI-insured so venues might not allow them to play at your event, or it could make your guests unable to claim if injured.
    • preparation in either legally buying official music from record stores and DJ pools, or illegally downloading low-bitrate versions from virus-risking torrent sites and YouTube
    • punctuation - whether they're early to setup and start on-time / turn up late or not show up at all (as poor van maintenence and better-paid offers can cause some DJs to let you down)
  • What is PAT Testing / PLI Insurance and why are they important?

Some venues won't allow a DJ, band or any other contractor to do their job on their grounds if no evidence for having PAT or PLI is held.  Some might inform you of this when you first book the venue, others only ask for it when the event is due to start - which means if they don't have proof, you may have to host your party without a DJ!

PAT or Portable Appliance Testing is how businesses check their electrical equipment is safe to use in the workplace.  Everything from a kettle in an office to the drill on a building site should be tested once a year, as well as all of the power cables that have current passing through them - so as you can imagine a DJ setup of decks, laptop, speakers, lighting, fog machine etc plus all the leads can be a danger if not checked correctly.

PLI or Public Liability Insurance covers claims made against a business by clients, workers and members of the public for injury, property damage etc caused by their equipment or services. So if one of your guests trips on a loose wire and breaks their wrist, or if the venue catches fire from their faulty gear, there are legal proceedings in place to help pursue a case against them and claim the payout.

  • Can I hire just lights or speakers if I've already got a DJ or band?

In short, yes!  Whether you're in a band from Wirral or getting a friend from Liverpool to DJ, maybe you're a Chester wedding planner or hosting your own playlist party in Wrexham - we can provide you with DJ Lighting around Merseyside, Cheshire and North Wales without a DJ.

In most cases we can deliver and setup for you before the gig then packdown and collect either that night or the next day.  You don't need an account with us, all we ask is to see ID with your name and address (eg. a driving licence) before we leave expensive equipment in your trusted hands!
